Just breath

Lil' Man just finished raging for 30+ minutes which consisted of him screaming, trying to hit me, throwing things, flopping about on the floor like a freaking fish out of water, spitting, yelling, name calling, and acting psychotic.

Currently he is trashing his bedroom, and I don’t even care.  I gave up and walked away.  Rage all you like my little love bug, just stay away from me.

I am tired, worn out.  I don't know how much longer I can deal with these behaviors.

HELP!

  1. Change is so difficult for FASD kids. If the visitation was progressing like you would hope, you would probably be seeing an increase in these behaviors. Take it 1 day, 1 hour, 5 minutes at a time. You can do anything for 5 minutes. Mine has sensory issues- a weighted vest does wonders. I am sure lil man isn't any happier than you right now. Hang in there.

  2. He was mad because I took away his cars again, because he was stripping at school. Grrr...He calmed down, told me he was sorry, and then cleaned his room. Its all good

  4. I hope that things calm down, fudge does not rage like that very often but Calvin used to, not engaging is sometimes the only thing that works. glad it is over

  5. Ugh - I'm glad it is over and that you survived! Definitely look for a resurgance of some of these behaviors as he transitions - even though he doesn't know he's transitioning yet! Change is hard, and he doesn't have the words to tell you that yet. Hang in there!

  6. I feel your pain. It is so tiring emotionally to deal with this.

Nate has been having rages like you described for 16 months. He had one yesterday that I thought would never end. I know there may be some deep underlying reason for lil man's rages but Nate typically rages when he simply doesn't get his way. You know, life. We can walk on pins and needles and let him do basically what he wants to do and we don't have to deal with rages so there are times it seems he is doing so much better but in reality he hasn't changed all that much in the last 16 months. WE have learned better how to deal with him but he is still so unpredictable. It really is so discouraging at times.

I too, just have to remove myself from the situation and he will calm himself down. I think, my presence fuels his fire sometimes because he works harder to get a reaction from me. I guess, it's not as fun if no one is watching.
