The start of a new chapter

Today is our little guys last visit with his birth family.  His parent’s rights are being terminated.  Such a bitter sweet day.  While I am in agreement with the courts that he should not be in his Mothers custody, it still breaks my heart to know that after today, he will not see his Mother until he is at least 18 yrs old.

I have written down all of his family members names, and current address.  I have scrapbooked pictures of him along with his birth family that we took at our last visit.  I documented his half brothers full name, and birth date.

I grilled his Aunt, for important information, such as when he walked, his first words, how old he was when he got his first tooth, etc.  It is my hope that through his scrapbook, he will feel a connection with his birth family.  I also hope that if and when he wants to find his birth family the information I have gather, will make the search flawless.

For four years our Lil man has lead a very unstable life, bouncing from one home to another.  Today is the start of a new life.  Our Lil Man is legally free for adoption.  It is my hope that he will find his forever family soon.  He deserve that, and so much more.

  1. I think it's great that you've taken the time to gather all of that information for him. It will give him something tangible to remember that part of his life by and I hope the family that adopts him will understand the importance of that.

  2. I applaud your efforts to make sure that Lil Man has this information about his birth family. Truly - most foster parents don't understand how important these little pieces of history are to a child.

Question - is there going to be any attempt to have contact between Lil Man's birth family and his new adopted family (once indentified)? I obviously don't know all the details about his birth fam - but he doesn't have to lose all contact just because the parents' rights are terminated. I was just wondering what the agency/states' position on this is... totally out of curiousity!

But mostly, thank you - for being such a great support and advocate for Lil Man. We need more foster parents like you in the world!

  3. His birth Mother could careless about visits. In fact she called our worker today, and told them she wont be making it to court today.I am hoping he will still be able to visit with his aunt and cousins. He is very close to his cousins.
