Don't give me that look

Can someone tell me why I am letting other peoples comments get to me? I am no longer struggling with the fact that we are not going to adopt our Lil Man. I know in my heart it is not meant to be. As I have said before we came into this situation to foster not to adopt. By adopting Lil Man it will close the doors to foster care. Every single time people find out we are not going to adopt him they have this look upon their face as if they cannot believe what I just said. Several people have said God led him into our lives, for us to adopt. How do you know that? Couldn't God just lead him to us for us to care for and love on, until he finds his forever family?

  1. I guess I thought you wanted to adopt because your title of your blog is "A Family For Keeps" and you had asked me about an infant I had blogged about doing respite for... if she was available for adoption. I hope that none of my comments bothered you :) I just think you sound like you care so much for him and are bonding so well with him! Whatever you do will be right for you!

  2. We desperately need families who are committed to temporary/respite/reunification care.

do you read Susan at Foster Care Warp? She does temporary care for little ones.

  3. It's always frustrating when people question your motives or make you feel like you aren't making the right decision. But in the end, you know what's best and you get to make that decision.

  4. Thanks everyone for your comments. I was talking about peoples comments in real life. My sister in law cried when I told her we were not adopting lil man.

  5. Tough one! Both sides' thoughts are understandable. But they don't have to live with the day to day consequences of your decision, YOU do, so you do what's best for you!

  7. I just read your blog from the beginning. First, you crack me up. Of course you couldn't do this without a sense of humor. We adopted our foster child but our circumstances were different. I kept a private blog while we were fostering. We have had several kids, but fought like hell for our Lydia. The system is so serioulsy screwed up. Your blog sounds A LOT like mine did back then. I was reading some of yours to my husband and we were laughing. It all sounds sooo familiar. Secondly, I am sooooo impresed with your mature persistance. I am a behavior specialist for a small school district and I can tell you that EVERYTHING you are doing is RIGHT ON! Way to go - That is NOT easy to do. I can barely get teachers to do it for 45 minute periods in a school day, let alone what you are doing for this little boy. He is one lucky kid. His forever family is lucky too and OF COURSE God chose you to prep him for his forever mommy. People say the stupidest shit. Both of my kids are adopted and you wouldnt believe the comments people make. Unreal. Anyhow, I lov your blog. You're doing a great job with Lil Man. :)
